Heat treatment

Pallets, wooden crates, cable drums and other forms of packaging must be heat treated when used for exports outside of Europe.

Did you remember to heat treat your packaging?

The following continents require heat treatment: North America, South America, Oceania, Africa and Asia (118 nations out of 134 have joined the ISPM 15 Convention).

A costly oversight!

You risk your entire consignment being rejected if the goods are received in wooden crates or on wooden pallets that have not been heat-treated. Reloading isn’t even permitted, the entire consignment will be returned.

Late delivery, loss of orders, additional transport costs and liability to pay compensation are all consequences of no heat treatment.

Why is heat treatment required?

Heat treatment ensures that pests are not transferred from the exporting country to the recipient country.

There are pests on each continent that could, under the right climate conditions, exponentially increase and exterminate entire forest areas. Heat treatment kills any pests in the wood.

What is the ISPM 15?

The IPPC (International Plant Protection Convention) has stipulated how to carry out and document heat treatment.

This regulatory framework is called the ISPM 15. The core of the wood must be heated to 56 degrees Celsius for at least 30 minutes.

Certification in Denmark

The Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries certifies companies to carry out heat treatment pursuant to ISPM 15. Danpal is certified with licence number DK-8007.

We provide a certificate in connection with heat treatment. Additionally, all wooden crates and pallets are stamped with our licence number.
